Dewatering & Flocculant Troubleshooting
Check feed, chemical preparation, dose, mixing, fabric and cake behaviour before changing an operating setpoint.
Dewatering & Flocculant Troubleshooting
Selected for your slurry. Manufactured for your project.
Poor drainage or turbid filtrate can have several causes. A controlled diagnosis records what changed and separates chemical performance from fabric selection and container operation.
Product selection
Specifications that inform the right choice
Compare the published grades, then confirm the supplied construction and project requirements in the technical submission.
| Observation | Check first | Useful next step |
|---|---|---|
| Weak or inconsistent floc | Feed variation; chemical identity; active dose; preparation | Repeat controlled sample comparisons |
| Floc forms then breaks | Injection point; downstream pumping and mixing | Compare floc before and after the suspect stage |
| Cloudy early filtrate | Conditioning; filter selection; start-up cake formation | Collect early filtrate and measure agreed parameters |
| Slow drainage | Feed solids; cake accumulation; fabric/liner fit; conditioning | Review drainage against time and remaining capacity |
| Gel-like or stringy material | Preparation; concentration; mixing; possible excess dose | Check make-up and repeat a controlled dose-response trial |
| Clear water but failed water-quality result | Dissolved constituents; parameter tested; treatment route | Analyse the relevant contaminants and review treatment |
Technical notes and test basis
These are diagnostic prompts, not confirmed causes. If a bag or tube shows distress or reaches its operating limit, stop filling under the agreed procedure; do not increase pressure to force drainage.

Fabrication, QA/QC & African project supply
Use a baseline
Record feed and chemical flow, dry-solids concentration, preparation details, mixing arrangement, filling stage and measured filtrate quality.
Change one trial variable at a time
Compare observations against the agreed baseline and acceptance criteria. A visible symptom is not a unique diagnosis.
Respect structural limits
A blocked or slow-draining system is not permission to raise filling pressure. Inspect ports, seams, support and filling height using the operating procedure.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can more polymer always fix cloudy filtrate?
No. Incorrect chemical selection, preparation, dose, mixing, feed changes or an unsuitable filter can produce similar symptoms. Diagnose with controlled trials and measured results.
Does clear filtrate prove the water is safe to discharge?
No. Test the parameters required for the receiving route. Geotextile filtration does not automatically remove dissolved contaminants.
